TrueNorthBrief is run by one person: me, Sarah Mitchell. I’m a research librarian and fact-checker in Ottawa, and I built this site to give you straight answers without the noise. If you need to reach me, here’s how.
For questions about the site
If you have a question about something you read here—whether it’s about a specific brief, a topic you’d like covered, or how I verify facts—send an email to info@truenorthbrief.com. This address is for general inquiries, including suggestions for new briefs. I read every message, and I use your input to decide what to cover next. For example, if you’re curious about a person, a place, or a piece of culture, let me know—I’ll add it to my list.
For corrections and fact-checking
If you spot an error in any brief, please write to sarah@truenorthbrief.com. That address goes directly to me, and it’s the fastest way to get a correction reviewed. I take accuracy seriously—it’s the whole point of the site. When you send a correction, include the page title and the specific fact you believe is wrong, and if you can, a source. I’ll check it against my own research and update the brief if needed. You can read more about how I handle this on my corrections page.
Response time
I’m a one-person operation, and I also have a day job and two kids, so I can’t promise instant replies. Here’s what you can expect:
- General inquiries (info@): I aim to respond within 3–5 business days.
- Corrections (sarah@): I prioritize these and usually reply within 1–2 business days, though a full fix may take longer if I need to dig into sources.
If you’re waiting on a reply, please don’t send multiple follow-ups—it just slows me down. I do read everything, even if I can’t answer every message in depth.
Why no ads or paywalls
TrueNorthBrief has no ads and no subscription fees. I run it on my own time and savings because I believe reliable facts should be free. That means no sponsored content, no affiliate links, and no pressure to write about anything I don’t think is useful. What I don’t cover
I don’t do opinion pieces, long-form journalism, or clickbait. If you’re asking for that, I’ll point you elsewhere. But if you have a factual question—about history, sports, food, or anything else in my 983 briefs—I’m glad to hear it.
